The Importance of Printing Your Family Photos
You may think digital images vs a printed photographs are essentially the same thing, so why take the time or pay for them to be printed. I hope to show you the importance of printing your family photos and why it’s an investment you will value even more with time.
Why Are Printed Family Photos More Meaningful?
As both a dad and a Toronto family photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how people react to printed photos in a way that digitals simply can’t match.
✔Printed family photos help kids feel connected.
I believe that when our daughter sees her family photos displayed at home, it reinforces her sense of belonging. She smiles and laughs as she remembers moments, as well as people and pets no longer with us. I think not only strengthens her connection to our family, but also reminds her about how much she is loved and how important that is in our family. It’s easy for kids to see the importance of printing your family photos.
✔Holding a photo spark real emotions.
There is something special about holding a physical print. Flipping through prints or an album sparks stories, laugher, and memories in a way that swiping through images on a phone rarely captures.
My 6 year old daughter loves flipping through her baby photos and even our engagement album. It’s adorable watching her eyes light up as she asks a million questions about when she was small or about how mommy and daddy met. (although she still has a hard time imagining that there was a time even before she was in mommy’s belly!) These conversations create lovely family memories and help her understand her place in the family and the world.
✔Albums are built for storytelling.
I believe the best medium for storying telling is an album. Hands down. An professionally designed album visually tells a a chapter of your story across the spreads, inviting you to sit down together, slow down, and relive moments as a family. Each page turn is a new moment to relive, or old expression remember.
A Photo on Your Wall Is a Memory You’ll Relive Every Day
Think about the most meaningful photos you’ve seen. Maybe it’s a faded black and white photograph of your grandparents when they were young. Or maybe a childhood photo of you with your family that still hangs in their home.
Now imagine that photograph instead only existed as a file on an old phone lost somewhere, or a CD in a drawer getting scratches. Sadly that’s the fate of so many meaningful photos.
Printed photographs live on. They aren’t just snapshots, they are reminders of the love, history, connection, and can transport you back to those moments, those people that are in them. They are like a little time machine for feelings.
When a photo is printed and displayed, it becomes part of your daily life. Every time you walk past it, you remember the moment, not the photo, but the feeling you had at that time. It really is magic.
